10600m Backstroke swim Cold water training As tragically the sea is much colder, salty and choppy than a swimming pool, the majority of my later training will be in such conditions. My only cold water training to date has been spent in the north sea by Sunderland, accustomising to the cold and swimming for only 5/10 minutes at a time. t must be noted though that this is in winter/spring and will be much colder than the actual swim ( the temperature was in the region of 5-8 degrees Centegrade, the actual swim will be more in the region of 14 degrees, a massive difference). Edit: Going to datchet in a few hours for my first proper open water swim, can't wait! Nutrition Om nom nom nom nom. Thats the sound of a Geraint most of the time. In order to both swim the amount I am currently swimming and still gain weight to insulate myself from the cold on the swim, I'm currently on about 9000 calories a day! These are mainly coming in the form of carbs, I eat roughly 4-6 full meals a day, as well as 2 mass gain calorie-heavy meal-replacement shakes. |
